Arrived in Thailand!

Well Nara and finally arrived in Thailand at midnight on our Saturday. We went straight from the airport to Khao San Road, which is the backpackers haven in Bangkok. We jumped in a cab for 40 minutes racking up the huge bill of 291 Baht (about $9 or so).

We weren’t on this road for even 5 minutes before I came across some Thai bboys dancing in the road. Nodded a greeting and then we grabbed a hostel room and went back to see the bboys. They had already stopped dancing so I was a little downed by that as I wanted to join in. One of them, however, spoke perfect English and we chatted for a bit. There are no competitions coming up this week while I’m here (I think I saw Nara smile when he said this) but he gave me his proffessional bboy card so I could give him a call to go and practice with him and his crew. I think I like this country.

We walked around Khao San for a bit and I grabbed a Pad Thai for 20 Baht which is approxiamately $0.64. Not a bad deal at all. Anyways, we didn’t ask to see the room at the Hostel because it seemed pretty bare in the photo anyways so we didn’t think there’d be a problem. We didn’t however expect there to be no bed sheets. Oddly enough Thailand nights aren’t as warm as the days and it was an uncomfortable sleep to be sure. Not staying there again, to say the least.

Anyways, I’m sorry I don’t have any photos to update with but in a day or two I hope I’ll have some nice shots to show off on here and keep you all entertained. Tomorrow Nara and I should be going to a tiger sanctuary among other things so stay tuned :D

Where else do you think I should go and what should I eat? I hope you guys have some recommendations for me :)

Having never been in Thailand the only thing I can recommend is staying away from the sex malls :p

I must say I am jealous of your 64 cent pad thai. All the noodle dishs here in Calgary are at least 65 cents which is a real bring down.

I can’t wait to see some hawt pictures of tigers. Maybe try and get a picture of you hugging one. That would be great social proof :)

Can’t wait for more updates.

Peace buddy

stay away from street Pad Thai…that’s all I can say. 3 days of food poisoning when I was there!

If you’re staying only in Bangkok then this is my number 1 recommendation for you: you MUST got to CHATUCHUCK market on saturday/sunday. You can buy anything you would ever want (clothes, dvds, animals,…everything!) and it is dirt cheap!

I also reccomend “PANTIP” it’s heaven for comp-sci’s . 4 floors of pirated DVD’s, computer software and cd’s…worth going to for sure!…just ask around on how to get there.

food….make sure you have a banana pancake, and banana fritters (deep fried banana) sooo delicious!

have fun!!!! thailand is incredible! i miss it like crazy, but will be going back in few months!

ps- just off of Khao-san road there is an area called “RAMBUTTI VILLAGE” and it’s a way nicer place to stay…tons of guesthouses, not such an insane atmophere…again, just ask someone how to get to rambutti village

Wow Sarah! Thanks a ton for the tips! We’re actually staying on Khao San Rd and it’s dirt cheap enough as is I think. $10 a night for a nice room is ok for me!

We’re just heading off to Kho Chang Island tomorrow but we’re going to shop like crazy on the friday and saturday when we get back so I’ll be sure to check out those places you mentioned though I’m not much for buying pirated DVDs as I can do that much at home for free (minues the photocopied covers ;)).

We’ve had it lucky so far with the street pad thai though but will be careful from here on in!

Thanks again for the pointers and I will update with a tiger pic or two just for Jon’s sake ;)
